After a long day at the office the first thing cory, alden and i do is run through the house and change into fishing clothes. this is usually followed with packing a cooler and throwing it in the boat for an evening cruise, fishing trip or go to check our crab traps.
the other night we got home alden had to much homework to play. it didn't matter anyway -- cory and i just felt like sitting on the dock and sipping some wine. as we sat back in our chairs to relax and watch the water cory said "look there's a tarpon rolling"...as i looked i saw a second one gulp a small breath of air. i really was enjoying my seat but dang...here sat a small school of 'poons rolling 6 feet from our seats. she said "are you going to fish?" -- i told her i didn't have any livies and i didn't feel like getting the flyrod out.
i sat back drank some wine and looked toward the water... a small school of pogies swam close to the boat house to avoid the attention of the tarpons. i could feel cory looking at me like-- you are going to net those --right?? so lazily i put down my wine and got up. it felt like i had lead boots on. as i dug out the castnet the bait moved away from the dock. i get ready to throw and contemplate putting the net back down and finding my chair again. another tarpon rolled out of the cornor of my eye so i tossed the net. it landed in a decent circle.
as i pulled the main line the net felt alive. to myself i thought -- great... now i have no excuse not to fish. i reached down to pull the net on to the dock and to my surprise -- no bait--but i had caught a 'poon
I looked to cory and said "I guess my work is done here."
she took a picture and we sat back and watched the tarpons roll til dark.
